The Children Have Returned Home

Right on the money -- fall is my favorite time of year. The crispness of the air, the beauty of the colors of the earth, BYU football . . . Go Cougars!

You Belong in Fall

Intelligent, introspective, and quite expressive at times...

You appreciate the changes in color, climate, and mood that fall brings

Whether you're carving wacky pumpkins or taking long drives, autumn is a favorite time of year for you

Oh yeah! My brother-in-law, Aaron, likes to go out of his way to plan a carved pumpkin for me every year. The pumpkin is always centered around my love of BYU football and his extreme distaste for the same. Always something to do with a U of U football player. Oh, the joy of fall.

The children have gone home. It was hard to say goodbye but as I caught some kind of creeping crud yesterday I'm actually kind of grateful. Baby Elias was a doll beyond all belief. He is eight months old and truly one of the loves of my life. Each of the children brought a lot of joy, and frustration, to our lives over the last six days.

For childless couples like ourselves, this was a precious time for us. But I am forced to remember one of the relatively few pluses of not having children. Sleep. I crave sleep. Lots and lots of sleep! Elias was teething the entire time . . . we had fun!

  1. Yep, same for me again!
Like you, I just LOVE Fall!
I just never carved a pumpkin before....maybe it's time for me to give that a try? :0)
I'm so happy for you and Alvin for having had such a great time with your nieces and nephews! I only have one 8 month old nephew now, and I could just 'eat' him! So I know exactly how you feel!

  2. Carving pumpkins can be a fun basic thing to do for Halloween, or you can take it to an art form as my brother-in-law, Aaron, has done. There are some doozies out there.

We did have a lot of fun with children. I really didn't want to give them back. But I was so sick the last two days I didn't get to enjoy them the way I wanted.

Alvin and I are so blessed that Heather and Aaron trust us with their children and let us have them over for the night with a phone call.

Those five children are a blessing loaded with love, happiness and joy in our lives.

Babies are a gift from God, no question. They look up at you with those big beautiful eyes as if you are the greatest thing in the world. Oh the love that swarms my body at that moment.

When I'm better I'm going down to their house to get another dose of that sweetness known as Elias, Skye, Brigham, Stormy and Connor.

  3. I'm going to have to try this one. I'm a definite spring and autumn person. Will be fun to see it it works right for me.

Sorry about the stomach flu, Candace. It's doing the rounds again, unfortunately. Does it ever really go away??

  4. I don't know, Anne. Mine seems to be a respiratory flu. Sinuses, throat, lungs -- it's miserable. But, the beauty of working from home is that I won't pass it on to everyone.

Me and my new best friend, my Lysol spray can, are never separated. I REALLY don't want Alvin to get this thing.

  5. I had to laugh at the 'I need sleep' tied in with how Elias was teething and ... he's a doll! Umm, we can all read between the lines here I think!

At least now you can get some of that rest you crave!

Glad you had a good visit though :)

  6. Thanks, Ali. I went to sleep at 5:00 last night until 9:00 p.m. Back to sleep at 10:30 and slept until 10:00 this morning. I am no getting ready to go back to bed again. I guess I'm too old to be sick and a "mother" at the same time. Who knew 44 would give you such a kick in the butt?

  7. Candace,
Oh how I can relate right now. We've been watching my sister-in-law's two-year-old twins for 5 days. I had SO forgotten all that age entails---times two! I'm completely exhausted. After I return them tonight, I'm certain the only thing that could possibly persuade me to keep my eyelids open another moment would be . . . a BYU football game. We're counting down the days here. Fall in Provo is the best!

  8. Oh, I feel your pain. Elias teething times two! Ouch! Of course, don't they have all their teeth by the time they hit two? See what a mother I am not?

    Go Cougars!

  9. Lots and lots of lemon juice, Candace! Hang in there!

  10. Oh that I could, Tristi. Citrus and I are not friends, as much I love lemon, orange, lime, grapefruit juice. Couple drops of that stuff and I'm riddled with arthritis the next day. Nice thing is, I don't have arthritis otherwise. So it's gargling with salt water, lots of lysine and vitamin C and quiet longing for big frosty glasses of orange juice.

  12. Will do HipWriterMama. That's about all I'm doing right now. Sleeping, drinking (not booze) and repeat.
