The 2007 Whitney Awards finalists have been released. It's time to curl up in a big, comfy chair with the best of the best, next to a crackling fire and lose yourself in the written word.The Whitneys are an awards program for LDS fiction, and are sponsored by the LDStorymakers. One of the most commonly repeated quotes among LDS authors is from Orson F. Whitney: “We will yet have Miltons and Shakespeares of our own.” As it is the goal of LDStorymakers to increase the quantity and quality of LDS fiction, it's only reasonable that the Storymakers should also honor those authors who excel and continually raise the bar.
The Whitney Awards honor novels in the following categories: Romance/Women’s Fiction, Suspense/Mystery, Speculative Fiction, YA/Children's Literature, Historical, Novel of the Year, and Best Novel by a New Author. Novels can be nominated by any reader (via this website or by mail), and nominees are voted on by an academy of industry professionals, including authors, publishers, bookstore owners, distributors, critics, and others.

Politics: Mitt Romney has now won two primaries (Wyoming and Michigan) and has the largest total of Republican delegates of any GOP candidate. He is not conceding South Caroline but does not think he will do well there will the large number of McCain and Huckabee fans there. He is moving on to Nevada, which actually holds 25% more delegates than South Carolina. So if you have friends and family in Nevada, spread the word. It's time for the west to join its voice with Wyoming and tell this nation that we demand a man of honor, integrity and intelligence be the next President of the United States of America. I cannot wait for my turn on February 5th to cast my vote!
For those of you who have not registered to vote you, get down to the voter registration portion of your city buildings and get registered right away. This is not an election you will want to stand idly by. The fate of this nation, whether it takes a final turn toward communism with the Democrats or the return to the fundamental morals and values of the founding fathers in voting for Mitt Romney now rests in the hands of the citizens of America.
Attend your caucuses and pay attention to the viewpoints and stances of the people you elect as your delegates. For they are the ones who will cast the votes for the candidates which will face off against each other in the general election. If you don't know the deadlines or dates of caucuses and primaries, click here to get them. Show up at the polls my friends, we need you there exercising your rights as an American citizen.

Oh yeah, I've got to hit the bookstore! I read Counting Stars and Independence Club - they were both great, but I see I've missed a lot too! I have to spend more time reading and less time at the computer.
ReplyDeleteAs for last night's election! Hooray! The only thing better would be if Obama and Clinton were abducted by aliens. Maybe we should send them to Texas. Those UFOs people are seeing down there are probably looking for them. heh
