This Nation Shall Not Fail

Someone on this blog, several months ago, asked me to find the quote wherein it was stated that America would not be lost. My friend Tristi found it and emailed it to me yesterday. Here it is, my friends. Straight from the mouth of a prophet:

"Men may fail in this country, earthquakes may come, seas may heave beyond their bounds, there may be great drought, disaster, and hardship, but this nation, founded on principles laid down by men whom God raised up, will never fail. This is the cradle of humanity, where life on this earth began in the Garden of Eden. This is the place of the new Jerusalem. This is the place that the Lord said is favored above all other nations in all the world. This is the place where the Savior will come to His temple. This is the favored land in all the world. Yes, I repeat, men may fail, but this nation won't fail. I have faith in America; you and I must have faith in America, if we understand the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are living in a day when we must pay heed to these challenges.

"I plead with you not to preach pessimism. Preach that this is the greatest country in all the world. This is the favored land. This is the land of our forefathers. It is the nation that will stand despite whatever trials or crises it may yet have to pass through. (Ye Are the Light of the World, Harold B. Lee, p350-51)

We will fight and fight on!

  1. Thank you for sharing this quote. The knowledge that the Lord is in charge and His power is supreme is all that keeps me from a screaming fit sometimes.

  2. I'm all for optimism.

Knowing this from President Lee is reassuring. To me, it means we don't have to keep tearing down our elected government because we've been promised the nation will not fail, even though government may "hang by a thread."

Seems to me that if we all keep doing our best to live righteously; voting for what we believe when we get the chance; abiding by the rules of the land; and leaving judgment, if mistakes are made, up to God, then this favored land will indeed continue to stand.

For sure, ". . . all it takes for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing," or words to that effect. But we can still cause positive things to happen without bashing those who are doing there best the way they see it needs to be done. Judging their hearts is not up to us.

I'll probably get shot for this viewpoint - and have no bad feelings against any of you - in fact I have the highest regard for Candace - but sometimes I can't help speaking up.

  3. Anne, of course you will not be shot for this viewpoint. But the Lord does expect us to do our part in the preservation of our nation. If we do not fight hard to protect what He has given us, why should He protect it for us? We have to do our part. For if we sit quietly in our homes as the nation falls down around our ears, freedoms-liberties-rights are ripped away, and evil becomes good ... God will not step in. We have to fight, Anne. A promise to is give us hope, not to give us permission to sit down and wait the battle out.

  4. Great quote. I have always believed that to be the case. Actually if you look at the quote about the constitution hanging by a thread, you will see that it doesn't mention that the country will fail. Just that it will struggle.
