In Light of the Washington Navy Yard Shooting

by Daniel Bongino, Former Secret Service
U.S. Congressional Candidate for Maryland's 6th District
Text BONGINO to 33733 to Opt In

In light of recent events I am posting today as a former Secret Service agent, not a candidate. This is not the time for politics.

An active shooter kills someone, on average, every 15 seconds. Tragically, in these types of incidents the killer is not looking to negotiate, he is looking to inflict maximum carnage.

Heaven forbid you are involved in one of these scenarios, keep these points in mind. First, if an immediate exit point is available take it, but if it is a distance away then take the opportunity to lock a door, barricade it and find a place to conceal yourself. Second, avoid being caught in hallways and doorways. Hallways serve as "fatal-funnels" and fired rounds can ricochet off the walls. Doorways can silhouette your profile making you an easy target. Third, understand that if confronted you will have to fight back. These types of murderers have no interest in anything but death. Find an object and use it as a weapon, it may save your life.

It's sad that we have to have these conversations but in a world where your God-given right to self-protection is treated as a tradable commodity, I feel an obligation to give you options while others choose to take them away.

The Second City Network Mocks Obama...What?

Liberals mocking Obama? Stunning turn of events in America. Apparently Obama is apparently no longer sacrosanct and open to scrutiny and mocking. I was beginning to think that the deliberate ignorance and cover-up was going to continue throughout this ridiculous presidency we are being subjected to. Enjoy!

How Important is Religious Freedom?

The 11th Article of Faith from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints states:
11  We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
I would add, that freedom to worship according to the dictates of our own conscience would also include that which does infringe on the religious liberty of another.

Dan Bongino, Maryland's 6th Congressional District

Daniel Bongino is running for Congress in Maryland's 6th District. On September 11th, he spoke on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol at the Patriots4America and Special Operations Speaks event remembering the Benghazi 4. I can only say, he speaks the words that I have often spoken. Maryland, this is your man.

Senator Mike Lee Opposes Intervention in Syrian Civil War

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thursday, September 5, 2013

Lee Opposes Intervention in Syrian Civil War

“The real threat to U.S. credibility is not what happens if we don’t intervene, but what happens if we do without a plan for what comes next.”

WASHINGTON – Today, Senator Mike Lee released the following statement in opposition to U.S. military action in Syria:

“The administration has indicated its goal is to use limited military action to significantly degrade Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s ability to use chemical weapons against his own people and to deter future attacks. After hearing from the Secretary of Defense and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs in a top-secret briefing, I do not believe that the range of options the president is considering will accomplish this military objective, and therefore I cannot now support intervention into the Syrian civil war.

“First, it remains unclear how the president’s plan to execute limited strikes would prevent Assad from using chemical weapons again or even make it less likely. Second, it is entirely possible that ineffective U.S. strikes would embolden Assad to become even more ruthless towards his people.

“Finally, I am greatly concerned that in order to achieve the president’s goal, the U.S. would be required to become much more deeply involved in the Syrian civil war than the administration is willing to commit. The real threat to U.S. credibility is not what happens if we don’t intervene, but what happens if we do without a plan for what comes next.

“The risks of the president’s strategy far outweigh the possible gains. We cannot ask our men and women in uniform to engage in a military conflict that does not present a national security threat to the United States. Instead, the U. S. should work vigorously to identify and neutralize any real threats to our national security – such as the proliferation of chemical weapons. We must work to ensure that chemical weapons in Syria do not get into the hands of groups that will use them against American or western targets.”

BYU Wins in Historic Fashion

by Candace Salima

Last night, the Brigham Young University Cougars saw a repeat of the week before, but this "delay of game" due to rain was much more serious than in Virginia. My phone was getting blown up with text messages from the National Weather Service and local news services. It looked like heaven decided to just open up the dams and let it pour. Sheets of rain were pouring down our window, the tree out front swinging wildly in the wind. And this is how the BYU football stadium looked during the game delay.

LaVell Edwards Stadium, Brigham Young University, 4:00pm MDT on 7 September 2013
Facebook was exploding with pictures of flooded homes, streets and this was the University Mall parking lot. People were out sandbagging the streets, bailing out the flooded basements of homes across the valley, and all the while, the people of Utah Valley were anxiously waiting for the game to start.

In our neighborhood, the wind was mighty and the rain torrential, but we had no flooding. And, if you go to the BYU Football Facebook Page, you'll see some stunning pictures.

Through all this, Bronco Mendenhall and Robert Anae managed to keep the team warm, loosened up and ready to play. And wow, when they came out, they came out to rule the field. There would be no repeat of last week's game against the University of Virginia.

Taysom Hill had a difficult first half. One incompleted pass after another, and it seemed as if BYU's defense was going to spend most of the time on the field. But that changed, and it did so toward the end of the first half.

First, Eathyn Manumaleuna and Kyle Van Noy ruled the field, with the BYU secondary owning it as well. They kept the #15 ranked team in the nation, the Texas Longhorns, to a measly 21 points while BYU's offense smashed the school's rushing record. Between Taysom Hill who is the quarterback, Jamal Williams and others, they racked up 550 unprecedented rushing yards against the Longhorns. Taysom Hill, alone, rushed for 259 yards, 3 rushing touchdowns, and just for kicks and giggles, he passed for 129 yards. (He needs to pick up the passing yardage.)

Play after play was delivered with clean precision, and the BYU football team marched relentlessly down the field, time and time again. If the Offense fumbled, the Defense took it right back. And the Defense rarely, if ever, had a misstep. It was a fun night for Cougar Fans all the way around. However...

In particular, I noticed an incident at the end of a Jamal Williams run and first down. In the pile, I saw a Longhorn football player take Jamal's shoulders and pull him backward into an almost 90 degree angle position. He could have broken Jamal's back and most certainly injure him greatly. As it was, Jamal stumbled off the field and nearly fell to his knees as he crossed the sideline. This was uncalled for and the NCAA should be issuing a fine to the player and the University of Texas Longhorns. This was above and beyond the rough and tumble of football, and edging into criminal assault.

All that aside, BYU took down the #15 ranked team in the nation in glorious fashion, spanked 'em and sent them home. Congratulations, to our BYU Cougars! I hope they bring this same A-game to the BYU/UofU game next week.

What is democracy? - The greater Good - The Greater Greed.

Guest Blogger: Cash Case

Dallas, Texas

People are often very surprised to learn that we do not live in a democracy. We have been taught by uninformed teachers our whole lives that we do indeed live in a democracy. In actuality, we live in a republic.

Here’s the difference. In a democracy, the majority rules...seems fair enough, until you dig down into the thing just a bit. Majority rule works for somethings, sometimes. An example would be the elections we have been having for the last 236+ years. But it does not work for all things, and where the rights of the individual are concerned, it never works. Where the individual is concerned majority rule is a disaster.

Let’s look at an analogy.

A man purchases a piece of land in the middle of nowhere. He has the rightful ownership of this land. He builds a farm, marries and has children. He works the land and builds it into a nice farm that provides for him, his family and even has extra that he can store for when the weather doesn’t cooperate. His children grow and are now young men and they help their parents with the farm. He has put more than two decades into the land. Preparing the soil, building the farm management infrastructure and securing for himself and his family, a living.

Now someone, say a land developer comes by and sees what the framer has done and decides to purchase land near the farmer’s. This person then sells and builds homes on his land. Perfectly normal and fair.

The homes are purchased and a small town begins to grow. The people in the town organize themselves and create their own town council/city government. Again… perfectly normal.

Now a few years go by and the town has grown and the people in the town have voted themselves new taxes to pay for whatever they deem necessary. Everything is still good.

Now, at this point, the town is land locked. They need growth to increase the tax base to pay for the new shopping center that the town can’t live without. The city council looks around and says…”Hey that farmer guy has some great land. Let’s ask him to sell us his land. They do, the farmer declines, and now they have a problem.

The people want this shopping center, but the farmer wants his farm. It is his. He built it with his own sweat and blood to provide for his family and he has every right to it. The city council decides they are going to take his land for ‘the greater good’. They force the farmer from his land, and build their shopping center.

That’s democracy!

Nobody did anything wrong until the majority looked at the minority and said…”We want that.”

Some of you may read this and say, “What’s wrong with that?” They paid the farmer fair market value.”

Can they give the farmer back his 40 years? Can they give him back the ‘industry’ he created for his family? In a word, no.

Our founding fathers created a republic for this very reason, to protect the individual from the majority. They knew that a government would grow endlessly unless they did something to restrict it. That is what the constitution does for us. That’s its whole purpose, to protect the individual and by extension, the people from the governing body.

The rights of the individual are paramount to the continuation of the American way of life.

Ben Franklin said, “a democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.”

Without a republic, there is no liberty. Without liberty there is only tyranny.
