He is Risen

I wish, this morning, to give my deep and abiding testimony of our Savior, Jesus Christ. This I tell you, He lives. This I know with everything in me. That man who walked the dusty roads of Galilee and was crucified on Golgotha for the sins, griefs, illnesses and sorrows of an unworthy world, did arise from the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea early on that Eastern morn so long ago. He lives and He loves us with everything in Him. He conquered death, and because He did, so will we. His gospel has been restored, and the great hope and promise of eternal life rests within our grasp if we will but take it. Jesus Christ lives. Today I share with you the Irish tenor David Hobson singing The Holy City, a song my angel mother sang in church every single Easter for so long.

He atone. He arose. He is glorified.

For Sale: Family Farmette in the Dolores Valley

My 74-year old mama has put the family "farmette" up For Sale. I feel no sorrow over this, because I have worried day and night about my mother since my father died. I'm so happy about this, and thrilled my mother will be moving closer to either me, or to one of my siblings. My mind will be greatly eased to have her closer to us, and if selling the property accomplishes that, I am all for it. And it does.

So I'm posting all the information there about this wonderful property that was my home for so many years.

Location: Dolores, CO

GREAT HOME CLOSE TO  fishing, hunting, and skiing. The 3 bedroom 2 bathroom home has a large living room, fireplace with blowers, country style kitchen with lots of storage, attached green house and great views. Included with the acreage is a nice large barn with electric and water and chicken house. Storage trailer. 3 wells. 2 pumps. A small cabin is on the property with utilities. The acreage has an abundance of fruit trees, strawberry bed, garden area, pump house, garden shed.

My mother has built up the nutrients in the soil until it's so rich it produces the most amazing fruits and vegetables. There is a 1/2 acre garden, a 75-foot greenhouse attached to the back of the house, pastures, small orchard, etc. The three separate wells deliver clean, clear, cold, amazing tasting water straight from the tap. It is a beautiful property that my mother has lovingly attended for 30-years. She is simply getting up there in years and beginning to worry she won't be able to handle the responsibility anymore. Hence the reason she has decided to sell.

It is 2 1/2 miles outside of a wonderfully small community, Dolores, where I went to junior high and high school, and wildlife is plentiful. In the heart of Mesa Verde country, close to the Canyons of the Ancients National Monument, McPhee Dam Reservoir, and the Anasazi Heritage Center in Southwestern Colorado.

A great place for hunting, biking, fishing, boating, hiking, with excellent lodging, dining, and real estate. Dolores, and the surrounding area, is a great place to live.

Movie Corner: Oz the Great and Powerful

Movie: Oz the Great and Powerful
Director: Sam Raimi
Starring: James Franco, Michelle Williams, Mila Kunis, and Rachel Weisz
Runtime/Rating: 130 Minutes / PG

The prequel to The Wizard of Oz, Oz the Great and Powerful is the story of a carnival magician and conman who arrives in the land of Oz. Greeted by Theodora, a very naive witch, Oz finds himself in a very strange land, one of vibrant colors, flying monkeys, china dolls and three very different witches.

Upon arrival in the Emerald City, Oz finds himself in a room literally filled with gold. Unfortunately, Theodora's sister Evanora is conniving and manipulative. She entices Oz with the gold and promise of the throne...after he kills the wicked witch. But the question is, who is the wicked witch?

Oz's journey takes him through Oz with an assortment of interesting characters. My favorite, although Finley the Flying Monkey was awesome, was the China Girl played by actress Joey King. The animators and screenwriters surpassed all expectations with China Girl.

All in all, the story plays out wonderfully in an engaging film that shows how Oz became Oz the Great and Powerful. Sometimes, it's less about magic and more about recognizing the potential within.

The writing is solid, as is the directing, acting and animation. And Theodora...wow, there is a lot more that witch than that stunning red hat! I give Oz the Great and Powerful 4.5 out of 5 stars. I'm just not a big fan of James Franco as Oz. It felt like there was something "not quite right" with Franco's portrayal of Oz. I was never able to really cheer for him, but the rest of the movie was fantastic.

Congress! Do you see how ridiculous you sound?

As you can see by the nation debt clock in the left column of my blog, we are nearing a staggering $17 TRILLION in national debt. We've begged and pleaded with Congress and the White House to get this under control. We've waged a war of words and philosophies explaining how morally reprehensible it is to spend in this wildly reckless fashion. But they continue to spend...spend...spend.

Candace Salima Speaks at Pro-2nd Amendment Rally

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

These rights given the American people by our Founding Fathers were really given us by our Heavenly Father and asserted through the U.S. Constitution.

On March 2nd of 2013 I stood on the steps of the Utah Capitol and spoke of what happens when freedom is lost, what the cost to America and the world would be if this shining beacon of freedom and liberty were to be extinguished.



"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Amendment II, the United States Constitution

There is no permit or new state or federal law that can give or take away the right to keep and bear arms, the U.S. Constitution gives us the right to be armed against a tyrannical government, to defend ourselves or to defend others. Other nations have disarmed their citizens, this will not happen in America.

Gunstock in Utah

What an amazing day it was in Lehi, Utah yesterday. Gunstock, organized and sponsored by Utah Guns, was a gathering of pro-2nd Amendment of 500 to 600 patriots from across the valley. The weather was beautiful with the sun high in the sky and the wind blowing at Thanksgiving Point. I  made a point of arriving early so I could get a good seat, my favorite band would be performing.

At the pavilion, while I listened to Madison Rising warming up, I looked out beyond Thanksgiving Point and saw the snow capped mountains surrounding us against a brilliant blue sky. The grass was greening, many wonderful pro-Constitution businesses were there supporting the rally, and all around me were like-minded Americans all standing up for their 2nd Amendment rights. It seemed as if all were either carrying concealed or open. I was wearing my Ruger in a holster on my hip. What a day it was.

KNRS' Rod Arquette was the MC for the day and I came away with a new and deeper found respect for the man. 

Dennis Kennedy of the Counterterrorism Institute of America led out the speakers with a strong pro-2nd Amendment speech. I've heard he's called the "drone whisperer", while he's decided I should be called the "eagle whisperer". This is in reference to the last rally I spoke at. Two or three minutes into my speech a bald eagle began circling overheard, it's cry echoing across the Capitol. The entire crowd was held captive at the sight and it was a once-in-a-lifetime moment. Anyway, I digress.

We heard from Utah's Representative Brian Greene who spoke about the pro-2nd Amendment legislation that had made its way through the legislature this last session. HB76, the Constitutional Carry Law, is now on the governor's desk. HB114, the 2nd Amendment Preservation Act, was help up by President of the Senate Wayne Neiderhauser, who was rumored to have been pressured by Governor Gary Herbert to not allow it to go to the Senate floor for a vote. And somehow, it didn't make it to the Senate floor before the clock ran out on this session. Thank goodness we have our Utah Sheriffs because Neiderhauser and Herbert are definitely standing in the way!

The guy on Utah's Capitol Hill known as the "gun guy", Representative Curtis Oda, also spoke to us. He too talked about what was going on up on there. A ridiculously cool 86% (don't quote me on that number, I'm a little fuzzy on the actual number) of our representatives are Concealed Carry. And Utah leads out on the nation on that. And apparently, a group called NAGR has made themselves persona non grata in Utah. Among the strongest of our 2nd Amendment supporters on the hill are Curits Oda and Brian Greene, and NAGR has been making ridiculous accusations at them, all of which are blatantly false.

Utah Guns presented the Utah Sheriffs Association with a brand new AR-15 in appreciation for the astounding letter they wrote and sent to Barack Obama warning him that they will stand for the constitutional rights of Utah citizens. They closed that letter with:
"We respect the Office of the President of the United States of America. But, make no mistake, as the duly-elected sheriffs of our respective counties, we will enforce the rights guaranteed to our citizens by the Constitution. No federal official will be permitted to descend upon our constituents and take from them what the Bill of Rights—in particular Amendment II—has given them. We, like you, swore a solemn oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and we are prepared to trade our lives for the preservation of its traditional interpretation." Utah Sheriffs Association
The crowd roared as that last paragraph was read, and again when Sheriff Jim Tracy of Utah County said "We are not the first responders, you are." We have turned into a society that refuses to defend itself, relying solely on the police, who can only come AFTER the commission of the crime. Sheriff Tracy was making it clear that he expects us to defend ourselves whenever possible AND call the police.

Then we were treated to about six or seven songs from Madison Rising. High Energy, great music, freedom inspired rock 'n roll, I was in heaven. Dave Bray, the lead singer, served our nation in the U.S. Navy and is an Iraq War veteran. This band loves America so much and should become known as America's band. Outside of The Star Spangled Banner, which I've posted on this blog before, they sang a song called Right to Bear that I fell in love with.



Another song they sang, which I could only find a live recording of, was called "American Dream". I wanted  to share it with you here as well.



After Madison Rising was done performing, then Congressman Chris Stewart spoke to us. Chris first came across my horizon when he published The Great and Terrible Series. I devoured them, reading one after the other as quickly as I could. Then he published Seven Miracles That Saved America: Why They Matter and Why We Should Have Hope and 7 Tipping Points That Saved the World and I became a fan. Last year, Chris decided to run for Congress and won. 

Congressman Stewart spoke about the ridiculousness of government at times, the U.S. Constitution, and American exceptionalism. Specifically, he addressed the concern that American patriots became discouraged over the last election. He shared a story with us about Mother Theresa who died the same weekend as Princess Diana. Take a guess which one was more widely covered, the princess or the saint.

Stewart spoke of one particular interview where the reporter asked Mother Theresa if she was discouraged that nothing she did had mattered, going on to explain that Calcutta was still poverty stricken and India still poor. This very wise woman responded to this ridiculous, and very rude, question with, "I am not required to be successful, I am required to be faithful." Stewart drew that correlation to the American patriot and asked us to keep fighting that good fight.

I walked away from Gunstock energized, happy, and ready to begin the battle anew to finally, once and for all, defeat the disease of liberalism that is eating away at common sense and the American Dream. My most profuse thanks to Utah Guns for standing for our 2nd Amendment Rights along with the host of other companies who joined us there,  including the food storage company Food Storage Chef, who has some of the yummiest food out there. Rock on, America!

We are current or former Army Reserve, National Guard, and active duty US Army Special Forces soldiers (Green Berets). We have all taken an oath to “…support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same.…” The Constitution of the United States is without a doubt the single greatest document in the history of mankind, codifying the fundamental principle of governmental power and authority being derived from and granted through the consent of the governed. Our Constitution established a system of governance that preserves, protects, and holds sacrosanct the individual rights and primacy of the governed as well as providing for the explicit protection of the governed from governmental tyranny and/or oppression. We have witnessed the insidious and iniquitous effects of tyranny and oppression on people all over the world. We and our forebears have embodied and personified our organizational motto, De Oppresso Liber [To Free the Oppressed], for more than a half century as we have fought, shed blood, and died in the pursuit of freedom for the oppressed.

Like you, we are also loving and caring fathers and grandfathers. Like you, we have been stunned, horrified, and angered by the tragedies of Columbine, Virginia Tech, Aurora, Fort Hood, and Sandy Hook; and like you, we are searching for solutions to the problem of gun-related crimes in our society. Many of us are educators in our second careers and have a special interest to find a solution to this problem. However, unlike much of the current vox populi reactions to this tragedy, we offer a different perspective.

First, we need to set the record straight on a few things. The current debate is over so-called “assault weapons” and high capacity magazines. The terms “assault weapon” and “assault rifle” are often confused. According to Bruce H. Kobayashi and Joseph E. Olson, writing in the Stanford Law and Policy Review, “Prior to 1989, the term ‘assault weapon’ did not exist in the lexicon of firearms. It is a political term [underline added for emphasis], developed by anti-gun publicists to expand the category of assault rifles.”

The M4A1 carbine is a U.S. military service rifle – it is an assault rifle. The AR-15 is not an assault rifle. The “AR” in its name does not stand for “Assault Rifle” – it is the designation from the first two letters of the manufacturer’s name – ArmaLite Corporation. The AR-15 is designed so that it cosmetically looks like the M4A1 carbine assault rifle, but it is impossible to configure the AR-15 to be a fully automatic assault rifle. It is a single shot semi-automatic rifle that can fire between 45 and 60 rounds per minute depending on the skill of the operator. The M4A1 can fire up to 950 rounds per minute. In 1986, the federal government banned the import or manufacture of new fully automatic firearms for sale to civilians. Therefore, the sale of assault rifles are already banned or heavily restricted!

The second part of the current debate is over “high capacity magazines” capable of holding more than 10 rounds in the magazine. As experts in military weapons of all types, it is our considered opinion that reducing magazine capacity from 30 rounds to 10 rounds will only require an additional 6 -8 seconds to change two empty 10 round magazines with full magazines. Would an increase of 6 –8 seconds make any real difference to the outcome in a mass shooting incident? In our opinion it would not. Outlawing such “high capacity magazines” would, however, outlaw a class of firearms that are “in common use”. As such this would be in contravention to the opinion expressed by the U.S. Supreme Court recent decisions.

Moreover, when the Federal Assault Weapons Ban became law in 1994, manufacturers began retooling to produce firearms and magazines that were compliant. One of those ban-compliant firearms was the Hi-Point 995, which was sold with ten-round magazines. In 1999, five years into the Federal Assault Weapons Ban, the Columbine High School massacre occurred. One of the perpetrators, Eric Harris, was armed with a Hi-Point 995. Undeterred by the ten-round capacity of his magazines, Harris simply brought more of them: thirteen magazines would be found in the massacre’s aftermath. Harris fired 96 rounds before killing himself.

Now that we have those facts straight, in our opinion, it is too easy to conclude that the problem is guns and that the solution to the problem is more and stricter gun control laws. For politicians, it is politically expedient to take that position and pass more gun control laws and then claim to constituents that they have done the right thing in the interest of protecting our children. Who can argue with that? Of course we all want to find a solution. But, is the problem really guns? Would increasing gun regulation solve the problem? Did we outlaw cars to combat drunk driving?

What can we learn from experiences with this issue elsewhere? We cite the experience in Great Britain. Despite the absence of a “gun culture”, Great Britain, with one-fifth the population of the U.S., has experienced mass shootings that are eerily similar to those we have experienced in recent years. In 1987 a lone gunman killed 18 people in Hungerford. What followed was the Firearms Act of 1988 making registration mandatory and banning semi-automatic guns and pump-action shotguns. Despite this ban, on March 13, 1996 a disturbed 43-year old former scout leader, Thomas Hamilton, murdered 16 school children aged five and six and a teacher at a primary school in Dunblane, Scotland. Within a year and a half the Firearms Act was amended to ban all private ownership of hand guns. After both shootings there were amnesty periods resulting in the surrender of thousands of firearms and ammunition. Despite having the toughest gun control laws in the world, gun related crimes increased in 2003 by 35% over the previous year with firearms used in 9,974 recorded crimes in the preceding 12 months. Gun related homicides were up 32% over the same period. Overall, gun related crime had increased 65% since the Dunblane massacre and implementation of the toughest gun control laws in the developed world. In contrast, in 2009 (5 years after the Federal Assault Weapons Ban expired) total firearm related homicides in the U.S. declined by 9% from the 2005 high (Source: “FBI Uniform Crime Reporting Master File, Table 310, Murder Victims – Circumstances and Weapons Used or Cause of Death: 2000-2009”).

Are there unintended consequences to stricter gun control laws and the politically expedient path that we have started down?

In a recent op-ed piece in the San Francisco Chronicle, Brett Joshpe stated that “Gun advocates will be hard-pressed to explain why the average American citizen needs an assault weapon with a high-capacity magazine other than for recreational purposes.”We agree with Kevin D. Williamson (National Review Online, December 28, 2012): “The problem with this argument is that there is no legitimate exception to the Second Amendment right that excludes military-style weapons, because military-style weapons are precisely what the Second Amendment guarantees our right to keep and bear.”

“The purpose of the Second Amendment is to secure our ability to oppose enemies foreign and domestic, a guarantee against disorder and tyranny. Consider the words of Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story”: ‘The importance of this article will scarcely be doubted by any persons, who have duly reflected upon the subject. The militia is the natural defense of a free country against sudden foreign invasions, domestic insurrections, and domestic usurpations of power by rulers. It is against sound policy for a free people to keep up large military establishments and standing armies in time of peace, both from the enormous expenses, with which they are attended, and the facile means, which they afford to ambitious and unprincipled rulers, to subvert the government, or trample upon the rights of the people. The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered, as the palladium of the liberties of a republic; since it offers a strong moral check against the usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers; and will generally, even if these are successful in the first instance, enable the people to resist and triumph over them.’

The Second Amendment has been ruled to specifically extend to firearms “in common use” by the military by the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in U.S. v Miller (1939). In Printz v U.S. (1997) Justice Thomas wrote: “In Miller we determined that the Second Amendment did not guarantee a citizen’s right to possess a sawed-off shot gun because that weapon had not been shown to be “ordinary military equipment” that could “could contribute to the common defense”.

A citizen’s right to keep and bear arms for personal defense unconnected with service in a militia has been reaffirmed in the U.S. Supreme Court decision (District of Columbia, et al. v Heller, 2008). The Court Justice Scalia wrote in the majority opinion: “The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home.“. Justice Scalia went on to define a militia as “… comprised all males physically capable of acting in concert for the common defense...”

“The Anti-Federalists feared that the Federal Government would disarm the people in order to disable this citizens’ militia, enabling a politicized standing army or a select militia to rule. The response was to deny Congress power to abridge the ancient right of individuals to keep and bear arms, so that the ideal of a citizens’ militia would be preserved.” he explained.

On September 13, 1994, the Federal Assault Weapons Ban went into effect. A Washington Post editorial published two days later was candid about the ban’s real purpose:“[N]o one should have any illusions about what was accomplished [by the ban]. Assault weapons play a part in only a small percentage of crime. The provision is mainly symbolic; its virtue will be if it turns out to be, as hoped, a stepping stone to broader gun control.”

In a challenge to the authority of the Federal government to require State and Local Law Enforcement to enforce Federal Law (Printz v United States) the U.S. Supreme Court rendered a decision in 1997. For the majority opinion Justice Scalia wrote: “…. this Court never has sanctioned explicitly a federal command to the States to promulgate and enforce laws and regulations When we were at last confronted squarely with a federal statute that unambiguously required the States to enact or administer a federal regulatory program, our decision should have come as no surprise….. It is an essential attribute of the States’ retained sovereignty that they remain independent and autonomous within their proper sphere of authority.”

So why should non-gun owners, a majority of Americans, care about maintaining the 2nd Amendment right for citizens to bear arms of any kind?

The answer is “The Battle of Athens, TN”. The Cantrell family had controlled the economy and politics of McMinn County, Tennessee since the 1930s. Paul Cantrell had been Sheriff from 1936 -1940 and in 1942 was elected to the State Senate. His chief deputy, Paul Mansfield, was subsequently elected to two terms as Sheriff. In 1946 returning WWII veterans put up a popular candidate for Sheriff. On August 1 Sheriff Mansfield and 200 “deputies” stormed the post office polling place to take control of the ballot boxes wounding an objecting observer in the process. The veterans bearing military style weapons, laid siege to the Sheriff’s office demanding return of the ballot boxes for public counting of the votes as prescribed in Tennessee law. After exchange of gun fire and blowing open the locked doors, the veterans secured the ballot boxes thereby protecting the integrity of the election. And this is precisely why all Americans should be concerned about protecting all of our right to keep and bear arms as guaranteed by the Second Amendment!

Throughout history, disarming the populace has always preceded tyrants’ accession of power. Hitler, Stalin, and Mao all disarmed their citizens prior to installing their murderous regimes. At the beginning of our own nation’s revolution, one of the first moves made by the British government was an attempt to disarm our citizens. When our Founding Fathers ensured that the 2nd Amendment was made a part of our Constitution, they were not just wasting ink. They were acting to ensure our present security was never forcibly endangered by tyrants, foreign or domestic.

If there is a staggering legal precedent to protect our 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms and if stricter gun control laws are not likely to reduce gun related crime, why are we having this debate? Other than making us and our elected representatives feel better because we think that we are doing something to protect our children, these actions will have no effect and will only provide us with a false sense of security.

So, what do we believe will be effective? First, it is important that we recognize that this is not a gun control problem; it is a complex sociological problem. No single course of action will solve the problem. Therefore, it is our recommendation that a series of diverse steps be undertaken, the implementation of which will require patience and diligence to realize an effect. These are as follows:

1. First and foremost we support our Second Amendment right in that “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed”.

2. We support State and Local School Boards in their efforts to establish security protocols in whatever manner and form that they deem necessary and adequate. One of the great strengths of our Republic is that State and Local governments can be creative in solving problems. Things that work can be shared. Our point is that no one knows what will work and there is no one single solution, so let’s allow the State and Local governments with the input of the citizens to make the decisions. Most recently the Cleburne Independent School District will become the first district in North Texas to consider allowing some teachers to carry concealed guns. We do not opine as to the appropriateness of this decision, but we do support their right to make this decision for themselves.

3. We recommend that Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) laws be passed in every State. AOT is formerly known as Involuntary Outpatient Commitment (IOC) and allows the courts to order certain individuals with mental disorders to comply with treatment while living in the community. In each of the mass shooting incidents the perpetrator was mentally unstable. We also believe that people who have been adjudicated as incompetent should be simultaneously examined to determine whether they should be allowed the right to retain/purchase firearms.

4. We support the return of firearm safety programs to schools along the lines of the successful “Eddie the Eagle” program, which can be taught in schools by Peace Officers or other trained professionals.

5. Recent social psychology research clearly indicates that there is a direct relationship between gratuitously violent movies/video games and desensitization to real violence and increased aggressive behavior particularly in children and young adults (See Nicholas L. Carnagey, et al. 2007. “The effect of video game violence on physiological desensitization to real-life violence” and the references therein. Journal of Experimental Social Psychology 43:489-496). Therefore, we strongly recommend that gratuitous violence in movies and video games be discouraged. War and war-like behavior should not be glorified. Hollywood and video game producers are exploiting something they know nothing about. General Sherman famously said “War is Hell!” Leave war to the Professionals. War is not a game and should not be “sold” as entertainment to our children.

6. We support repeal of the Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990. This may sound counter-intuitive, but it obviously isn’t working. It is our opinion that “Gun-Free Zones” anywhere are too tempting of an environment for the mentally disturbed individual to inflict their brand of horror with little fear of interference. While governmental and non-governmental organizations, businesses, and individuals should be free to implement a Gun-Free Zone if they so choose, they should also assume Tort liability for that decision.

7. We believe that border states should take responsibility for implementation of border control laws to prevent illegal shipments of firearms and drugs. Drugs have been illegal in this country for a long, long time yet the Federal Government manages to seize only an estimated 10% of this contraband at our borders. Given this dismal performance record that is misguided and inept (“Fast and Furious”), we believe that border States will be far more competent at this mission.

8. This is our country, these are our rights. We believe that it is time that we take personal responsibility for our choices and actions rather than abdicate that responsibility to someone else under the illusion that we have done something that will make us all safer. We have a responsibility to stand by our principles and act in accordance with them. Our children are watching and they will follow the example we set.

Utah Sheriffs Warn Barack Obama

Dear President Obama:

We, the elected sheriffs of Utah, like so many of our fellow Americans, are literally heartbroken for the loved ones of the murdered victims in Connecticut. As Utahans, we are not strangers to this kind of carnage—one of the latest being the 2007 Trolley Square murders wherein nine innocents were gunned down—five losing their lives.

We also recognize the scores of other recent domestic massacres, which have decimated countless honorable lives. As Americans, we value the sanctity of life. Furthermore, similar to our inspired Founders, we acknowledge our subservience to a higher power.

With the number of mass shootings America has endured, it is easy to demonize firearms; it is also foolish and prejudiced. Firearms are nothing more than instruments, valuable and potentially dangerous, but instruments nonetheless. Malevolent souls, like the criminals who commit mass murders, will always exploit valuable instruments in the pursuit of evil. As professional peace officers, if we understand nothing else, we understand this: lawful violence must sometimes be employed to deter and stop criminal violence. Consequently, the citizenry must continue its ability to keep and bear arms, including arms that adequately protect them from all types of illegality.

As your administration and Congress continue to grapple with the complex issue of firearm regulations, we pray that the Almighty will guide the People’s Representatives collectively. For that reason, it is imperative this discussion be had in Congress, not silenced unilaterally by executive orders. As you deliberate, please remember the Founders of this great nation created the Constitution, and its accompanying Bill of Rights, in an effort to protect citizens from all forms of tyrannical subjugation.

We respect the Office of the President of the United States of America. But, make no mistake, as the duly-elected sheriffs of our respective counties, we will enforce the rights guaranteed to our citizens by the Constitution. No federal official will be permitted to descend upon our constituents and take from them what the Bill of Rights—in particular Amendment II—has given them. We, like you, swore a solemn oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and we are prepared to trade our lives for the preservation of its traditional interpretation.

The Sins of the Father

Are the sins of the father visited upon the head of the son? I say no. To each of us it is required to make our own decisions and accept responsibility, and consequence, for them. We too often pigeonhole everyone and in so doing miss great alliances which may be formed. Point in case: Ron Paul and Senator Rand Paul. There's no denying I am not a fan of Ron Paul, although I agreed with him on many points the ones we didn't agree on were pretty significant. 

Now take Senator Rand Paul's filibuster the other night. It energized the Republican base and even sparked some deeper thought in some Democrats. But many won't give Rand Paul the props he deserves because of his father. And in fact, many attacked him for standing for the 4th, 5th and 6th Amendment rights of every American citizen. They became lost in the fact that the filibuster happened during the John Brennan hearing and didn't realize it was about the core of what makes America great. For nearly 13 hours Rand Paul stood in dress shoes, unable to take a break, sit down or tend to personal needs, and he spoke of the greatness of America. If you listened you were treated to one of the greatest explanations of due process and how our government works presented by Senators Mike Lee, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and the man paying the price, Senator Rand Paul. We have a gamechanger here. Finally there are some in the U.S. Congress who are publicly standing for the U.S. Constitution: Mike Lee, Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio (at times), Chris Stewart, Trey Goudy, Jason Chaffetz (at times), Orrin Hatch (randomly), and a few others. 

It is up to the American people to take the next step, but if we refuse to do so because I supported Mitt Romney and you supported Ron Paul or Rick Santorum or Newt Gingrich, or Michele Bachman, we will irrevocably lose the opportunity to restore free enterprise and the Republic to which we have pledged our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor. Can we shake off the shackles of militancy and unite in this grand cause?

Will you join me in this cause? I have found an organization that is going to take Left's gameplan and turn it on its ear. We have the tools and technology. We have the know how. And believe me when I say we have the heart, we do. I have aligned myself with them because I recognize that we must unite and return civility to the conversation. As conservatives of all parties we can, and will, find common ground, but we must be willing to shake off the shackles that have divided us and stand shoulder to shoulder once again. FUNDRAISER AUCTION, DINNER AND SHOW TO OFFSET COSTS OF KIDNEY TRANSPLANT 

OREM, UT - A fundraiser auction, dinner and show to help offset medical costs for kidney transplant hopeful, Alvin Salima will be held Thursday evening, March 28, 2013 at Noah’s Reception Center in South Jordan, Utah. The event, sponsored by A Touch of New York Salon and Spa owner, Tammy Will, and political activist, Candace Salima, will be hosted by Fox 13 News personality, Big Budah. Several local performers have joined the fundraising effort and will perform throughout the event. Musical performers include popular singers, Nancy DeMello and Sherry Hulet, and the concert pianist and violin duo, Moon Light. Comedians Ivan Bigney and Joshua Fonokalafi will also bring their brand of humor to the benefit. 

A silent auction will also be held in conjunction with the benefit and features sculptures of The Statue of Responsibility by renowned artist, Gary Price. Other items up for bid are; recording time at Lakeview Studios, a signed copy of Glenn Beck’s book, Being George Washington, a 20”x30” framed print of celebrated painter John McNaughton’s , One Nation Under God, an FMK 9C1 handgun donated by UtahGuns.com, and a generous gift basket with signed books by authors Jayne Ann Krentz, Janette Rallison, Loralee Evans, James Rollins, L. S. Kielbart, Steve Berry, J. Scott Savage, and Jennie Hansen just to name a few of the great prizes available to the top bidders. 

Salima is a youth treatment counselor for the Division of Juvenile Justice Services and has worked with at-risk youth for over 25 years. His name is near the top of three waiting lists and he has patiently waited for a kidney donor since May of 2010. He currently undergoes dialysis treatments three times a week at Davita Dialysis in Provo. 

Noah’s Reception Center is located at 322 West 11000 South in South Jordan. The benefit is from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. An account has been opened at Zions Bank for people to drop off donations to the Alvin Salima Fund.
