Benefit for Alvin Salima

We are so grateful to Tammy Will of A Touch of New York Salon & Spa in South Jordan, UT. I met Tammy when I went to get my hair done. It had been well over a year since my hair had been done properly, and I'd just settled for cute hats and pony tails. But I met Tammy through Facebook, and from the first appointment we became fast friends. It wasn't long before Tammy decided we needed to do a benefit for my sweetheart to help defray the costs of his upcoming kidney transplant, the one we've been told will come in the next one to six months.

It wasn't long before we had a date selected: Thursday, 28 March 2013; a venue: Noah's Reception Center in South Jordan; and were well under our way in getting items for the Silent Auction. World renowned sculptor, Gary Lee Price, has donated two 18" Hydrostone Statues of Responsibility valued at $250 each. In addition we have stunning jewelry, a gun donated by Utah Guns, beautiful framed photographic landscapes, salon and spa packages, baskets (books and music), and more things being added daily. In the book basket we have signed copies of books by James Rollins, Jayne Ann Krentz, Janette Rallison, Karen E. Hoover, Roseanne Wilkins, J. Scott Savage, and L.S. Keilbart, with more being added all the time. Singer, Nancy DeMello, who is performing at the Benefit, is putting a basket of CDs together from people in the industry.

The entertainment portion of the evening will take place during dinner with Fox 13's Big Budah as the Master of Ceremonies. We have island dancers, comedians, musicians and more. All in all, it will be an evening to remember. You may stay abreast with all that is going on, as well as purchase tickets at www.alvinsalima.com.

By the way, Tammy did a fabulous job with my hair, nails, makeup and even lash extensions. She is an artist On top of everything else, I've found the woman who will take care of my beauty needs from here on out. Whew! What a relief.

Become a Part of the Leadership Revolution

Everyone will be called upon to lead at some point (and truly several points) in their lives, the only question is: Will they be ready?

The LIFE business launched with the purpose of providing world-class leadership materials to business executives, entrepreneurs, corporate climbers, pastors, church leaders, administrators, community service leaders, public servants, teachers, parents, and anybody who will find themselves in a position to lead. When it gets right down to it, leadership is for everyone. Nobody will be able to make their way through life without needing to draw upon the toolbox of leadership. Sadly, many people lack these tools and therefore get to live with the consequences of being ill-equipped. These consequences include missed opportunities, unfulfilled career aspirations, financial woes, and broken relationships.

Although leadership is for everyone, not everyone will equip themselves. Therefore, it may be helpful to consider a list of people for which the LIFE materials don't apply. LIFE leadership training materials are NOT for those who:
  • Refuse to take 100% personal responsibility for their results in life.
  • Would rather fix blame than fix problems.
  • Want an easy, comfortable life without having to earn it.
  • Already know everything and are therefore unteachable.
  • Have character issues they refuse to address.
LIFE is for those who earnestly seek a better life, are interested in the strenuous process of personal growth, are driven to succeed in significant ways, and are committed to a life of excellence for a higher purpose.
Mediocrity is for the many.

Leadership is for the few.

Everyone will be called upon to lead - few will be ready.

Contact me at ces at candacesalima dot com to learn more about how to become a part of the Leadership Revolution in America. As we educate America, so will we eventually be able to install reason in our great nation again. It's time to take control of our lives, our fortunes and our future.

Book Review: Dream Eyes by Jayne Ann Krentz

by Candace E. Salima
6 January 2013

I have to admit up front that Jayne Ann Krentz is one of my favorite authors, of which there are only a few. She is a bestselling author who has written, and published 162 books, 50 of which have ended up on the New York Times Bestsellers List. Through the course of her career she's published under seven names, from serial romance to the romantic suspense of today, but now publishes only under Jayne Ann Krentz (modern fiction), Amanda Quick (historical novels), and Jayne Castle (futuristic novels).

Dream Eyes is the second book in the Dark Legacy trilogy and it ties things up in a satisfying way. Krentz has a delightful habit of tying her books and trilogies together, even spanning centuries and worlds. You'll often find her characters crossing novels which is one of the things her readers love about her stories. Several years ago she began the Arcane series coupling psychic abilities with suspense and romance. Dream Eyes is the latest in that series, although utilizing a different line of psychics, the Copperstones.

Gwen Frazier is capable of reading auras, as well as producing and walking through dreams that can heal...or kill. Judson Copperstone brings a powerful family to the table, as well as psychic hunting ability and an amber ring through which immense psychic power can be pushed to defend...or kill. These are the good guys. Tie in a psychic serial killer, realize there may be more than one, and a series of murders across the nation culminating in the small town of Wilby, Oregon, and you pull together the nucleus of an exciting, intriguing story.

Krentz's writing is crisp, filled with imagery, solid writing, and a lovely twist to the story. Although she has 162 novels to her name, she still manages to make each one fresh enough to keep me coming back for each one, and always the first one in line at the store on release day. You just can't go wrong with a Jayne Ann Krentz book, and Dream Eyes is not only worth buying, it's worth keeping in your home library. I have four shelves dedicated to Jayne Ann Krentz in all her reincarnations and nearly every book she has written. She is an author I often read over and over, often craving one of her stories much like I do chocolate. The romance arc is solid, the suspense thread spot on, and her writing is at the top of her game, as usual. This garners her a 5 out 5 stars and each is well deserved. Can't wait to reread it when I'm not so tired.

Incredible Video about doTERRA Oils and Anti-Seizure Medicine

This is a wonderful testimonial of parents who were dying inside as they watched their child suffer. For myself, doTERRA oils have made all the difference in the world. Frankincense, Geranium, Lavendar, and Balance are my go-to oils that I simply cannot do with out. There is no question in my mind that essential oils can change your health when used wisely, and to develop a strong second income stream. doTERRA's business model thrives in the type of economy we are headed into, and I'm so grateful I caught the vision in August. I invite you to learn for yourself what it is all about at the doTERRA website.

News Corner USA: Mexico Schmexico

by Candace Salima
1 January 2013

Mexico continues to complain bitterly about Arizona's SB-1070 immigration law. I find this laughable in the extreme.
"Lawyers representing México asked the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in a filing December 26th to uphold a lower-court ruling that blocked police from enforcing the ban. México argued the ban harms diplomatic relations between the United States, undermines the U.S.'s ability to speak to a foreign country with one voice and encourages the marginalization of Mexicans and people who appear to be from Latin America.

"México cannot conduct effective negotiations with the United States when the foreign policy decisions of the federal governments are undermined by the individual policies of individual states," lawyers for the Mexican government said in a friend-of-the-court brief. (FoxNews)
Really, Mexico foists its poverty class upon us, passing out pamphlets at the border detailing precisely how to break into the United States and survive without detection.

Senator Curtis Bramble (UT-R), early in 2012, identified identity theft by illegal aliens to be as high as 75%. My own research puts that number at 72%. But I think we may safely say that illegal immigration and identity theft are closely intertwined. In addition, my sources says these illegal aliens often purchase a new identity every three to four months to insure they are not caught. This creates an incalculable effect on the American people. But let's say we have 12 million illegal aliens in America (that's the low number, some put it as high as 25 to 30 million.) Calculating that out with the lowest numbers, that shows that 8,640,000 Americans are victimized by illegal aliens with their first purchase of any identity. From that point forward, it is incalculable.

News Corner USA's Tevita Toutai found that gangs and the illegal alien population is even more troubling, "This problem is further perpetuated as nearly 50% of all gang members arrested in 2007 in north and western Virginia were illegal immigrants. The statistics supplied by the Center for Immigration Studies demonstrates the magnitude of this problem in our country. Data of arrest performed by ICE in the same year illuminates that 75% of illegal gang members in the U.S. came from Mexico and El Salvador."

Alvin and I have tried Alton's method of cooking turkey and it is heavenly. Juicy, flavorable and delectable.

Part 1

Cook turkey at 500 degrees, then turn down to 350 degrees until the turkey's internal temp is 161 degrees.

Part 2

Enjoy! And much thanks to Alton Brown for teaching us to cook such a delicious bird!
