Host: Tim Aalders
Co-Host: Candace Salima
Guest: Chris Stewart

On June 20th, Tim Aalders and I will be interviewing author Chris Stewart on Buy Back America Radio. I, for one, am very excited. I'm a big fan of his writing, and have all of his books, I think. However, his latest book blows them all out of the park. 7 Tipping Points that Saved the World. Wow, what a book! Put it on your calendar and be sure to tune in!
"Imagine a world with the means of mass destruction--nuclear warheads, biological weapons, chemical and conventional attacks--held only in the hands of despotic men and governments.
"Imagine a world, for example, with another Adolf Hitler or Joseph Stalin in command of much of Europe and all of Asia. Imagine such a man holding all this power, along with all of the other potentially destructive technological developments of the past forty years, without the counterbalance of free governments like those in Western Europe and the United States that have proven willing to stand up to tyranny and oppression.
"Imagine tyrannical governments with the modern-day capability to monitor, track, harass, suppress, and persecute their own people, their neighbors, their enemies, all without a group of nations willing to stand as light of freedom against oppressive leaders. Consider what our world might be like--what our world would be like--without the overwhelmingly positive influence of modern democracies.

"Then ask yourself this question: Have democratic governments saved this world?
"A world without free nations that were willing to sacrifice their blood and treasure to support the idea that men should be free would be a very different world from the one we live in today." (Chris Stewart & Ted Stewart, 7 Tipping Points that Saved the World, p. vii)

How unusual is it, really, in the history of all known human experience, to enjoy the blessings of living free? The answer may surprise you. In The Miracle of Freedom, Chris and Ted Stewart make a strong case that fewer than 5 percent of all people who have ever lived on the earth have lived under conditions that we could consider free.

So where did freedom come from, and how are we fortunate enough to experience it in our day? A deeper look at the human record, write the authors, reveals a series of critical events, obvious forks in the road leading to very different outcomes, that resulted in this extraordinary period in which we live. They identify and discuss seven decisive tipping points:

1. The defeat of the Assyrians in their quest to destroy the kingdom of Judah
2. The victory of the Greeks over the Persians at Thermopylae and Salamis
3. Roman Emperor Constantine's conversion to Christianity
4. The defeat of the armies of Islam at Poitiers
5. The failure of the Mongols in their effort to conquer Europe
6. The discovery of the New World
7. The Battle of Britain in World War II

The journey to freedom has been thousands of years long. Now that it has found its place in the world, the question for those of us who experience its benefits is simply this: Will we work to preserve the miracle of freedom that we enjoy today?

  1. This is a remarkable book. Well written, attention-grabbing stories and addresses the fragility of the freedoms we so very easily take for granted. I for one am grateful that Mr. Stewart authored the book and will happily recommend it to anyone who will be open to reading it.
